Frank Matson founded Citizen in 1984 after working as a Producer/Director at Denver’s KUSA. Beginning as a commercial Director and Producer, Frank grew Citizen into a high quality content producer, specializing in food, lifestyle, travel, and action-adventure programming. Frank currently serves as Executive Producer for the Primetime Emmy-nominated “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on Food Network while heading up development with Tim McOsker. He is a two-time Emmy winner for “Guy’s Family Reunion” (Food Network, 2013) and “Giada at Home” (Food Network, 2010), and a three time Primetime Emmy nominee for “Triple D” (2013-2015). Frank has directed two documentaries about the Leadville Trail 100 (“Race Across the Sky”, in 2009 and 2010, which played in theaters nationwide).
Tim leads production and development at Citizen Pictures with Frank Matson, in addition to serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner. Prior to Citizen, he was EP/Show Runner for the long running Food Network series “Unwrapped”. Once he joined the CP team in 2006, he's overseen shows such as Destination America's "SMOKED", "BBQ Pitmasters", and "BBQ Pit Wars", Cooking Channel's “FoodCrafters”, and Food Network's "Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin" and "Giada's Weekend Getaways". He also currently serves as EP and Post Supervisor for the Emmy nominated "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on Food Network. Tim was a 2015 Emmy nominee for Outstanding Directing for "The Real Girl's Kitchen" with Haylie Duff, and was part of the EP team on the Emmy winning special "Guy's Family Reunion" in 2013.
As VP of Business Affairs & Finance, Dustin heads up the accounting, finance, and business affairs activities for the company. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Dustin began his career in retail and business management, but his ability to meld the creative world with the business world guided him to join Citizen in early 2006. He is an avid car enthusiast, golfer, and enjoys the outdoors.
Jen oversees series and specials in the Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives franchise, including “Guy & Hunter’s European Vacation” and “Guy’s Family Road Trip”. Her career credits include Field Producer, Writer, Show Runner, and EP roles on numerous series and specials with Food Network, HGTV, DIY Network, E!’s Style Network, Disney, Discovery, Destination America, and TLC.
As the VP of Development at Citizen, Katie leads development team to create original formats & identify key talent for prodco's development slate.
Katie began her entertainment career in 2007 working for the NBC Page Program in Los Angeles where she had the opportunity to work for The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien & Focus Features. After completing the Page Program, she followed her love for journalism to work as an investigative researcher for KNBC, Los Angeles.
In 2010 she moved back to her home state of Colorado. Most recently, serving as Director of Development at Dorsey Pictures where she developed a myriad of successful shows. Katie is a graduate of Colorado State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Journalism.
Andrew moved from Florida in 2006 to explore his love for the mountains, and graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a BFA emphasis in post-production. A Citizen team member since 2007, Andrew manages footage ingest, deliverables, archiving, and all the behind the scenes functions that keep Citizen cranking out content. Snowboarding and mountain biking are what Andrew enjoys in his off time from work. He loves Colorado and will never part with the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
Jayme was raised in Minnesota and studied communications at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The day after her 2007 graduation, Jayme left for a videography gig in Florida. She fell in love with production and decided to make her life in Colorado. After six years in outdoor adventure TV production, Jayme tried the network side of the business. Missing the challenge of production, Jayme came to Citizen in November 2014 and has been helping deliver “The Real Girl’s Kitchen”, “BBQ Pit Masters”, “BBQ Pit Wars”, and "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" since. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and outdoor adventures like rafting and mountain biking.
Blaine Pate heads up Citizen Pictures Branded Entertainment division, building upon Citizen's existing body of work for brands such as Target, AT&T, Toyota, and Kellogg's, among others. A true entertainment industry hybrid, Blaine fuses more than a decade of creating, writing, directing and producing nonscripted documentary TV (Food Network, Netflix, HGTV, Bravo, Cooking Channel, FYI) and branded content (Microsoft, Buick, Kraft, Puma, Volvo) with a three year tenure in the advertising world, where he developed new business and produced branded content for a One Show Pencil Award-winning project with Droga5 agency.
Jamie has been editing for well over a decade with an extensive background in documentary and series work. He devoted his first three years at Citizen to cutting the Emmy Award winning Food Network series "Giada at Home", for which he received Outstanding Editing Emmy Nominations in 2010 and 2011. Jamie now serves as Senior Editor on the wildly popular, long-running Food Network series "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". He also works on Triple D-related specials like “Guy’s Family Cruise” and "Guy & Hunter's European Vacation". When away from the edit suite, Jamie can be found playing music, cycling, playing golf, and spending time with his family.
Mike grew up in Colorado and majored in Film Studies at CU Boulder. He joined Citizen in 2010 as a part-time Media Manager and quickly grew with the company to Editor. Mike has edited webisode content for Food Network shows "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "Giada at Home". He currently works on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives", “The Real Girl’s Kitchen” with Haylie Duff, and "BBQ Pit Wars". Mike's commercial editing for Frontier Airlines was a Telly winner in 2015. He lends his considerable skills to other Citizen projects such as Olympic athlete profile videos and lifestyle series for corporate clients. Mike enjoys drumming, skiing, and making ski videos for fun in his free time.
Elena lends her creativity to Citizen's content and corporate work. Since 2007, she has built her resume on programs such as “Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin”, “Giada at Home”, “FoodCrafters” and “Giada in Paradise” and "The Real Girl's Kitchen" with Haylie Duff. In 2012, Elena traveled the country producing over 40 webisodes, netting a million + views on the TeamUSA YouTube page. Currently, Elena is a producer on the Bravo series “Going Off The Menu”. Elena also researches trends and characters to assist with show development. Her flexibility, talent, and enduring enthusiasm have built her reputation as a key member of the Citizen team.
DC Barns is a CO native but abandoned the rectangle to study film at the College of Santa Fe, where he received his BA. Inspired by that city's art scene but not willing to participate in its adobe addiction, he traveled to NYC. There he worked for online editing company, Nice Shoes. In '05 he was drawn back and now serves as Citizen Pictures' Online Editor and Colorist. Outside of work he has completed several short films and enjoys seeking out abstruse artwork.
Since 2004, Phil has brought his talents as a motion graphics artist, designer, photographer and videographer to Citizen Pictures. His animation and graphics work has impressed clients like Coca-Cola, Discovery, Comcast, Food Network, The Cooking Channel, and The Travel Channel. He has also worked as a DP on several projects for Vail Resorts, Crocs, and the USOC. In his free time, Phil enjoys nature photography, overland exploration, and spending time in the outdoors with his wife and two beautiful girls.
Michael was born and raised in Colorado and graduated the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2008 with a Biochemistry degree. Somehow his interest in Biochemistry led him to working on DIY’s “Cool Tools”, “Food Network Challenge”, and Travel Channel’s “RIDE-iculous” among other cable series. Michael plays in a local band, grows a fantastic beard, and entertains all of us with his quick wit while impressing with his production management tenaciousness. He joined Citizen in 2013.
Laurie has worked in the construction, legal & advertising fields before happily landing in TV production in '98. Since ‘04, she has been freelancing in the Content Department of Citizen on programs like “Simply Delicioso”, “Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin”, and most recently on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”. In addition to working as a researcher, writer, production coordinator, and production accountant, she is the Official Treat Provider for Citizen's 2 top dogs... as well as any other four-legged friend visiting the premises.
After working in the healthcare industry, Merria decided to change things up and began working at Citizen in November 2012. She has helped out on productions as varied as “Giada at Home”, the “Giada in Paradise” specials, "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives", webisodes, and a one hour pilot, “Smoked”. Merria loves music, spending time with her family, and running the karate studio she owns with her husband.
Amy joined the finance team in 2013. She keeps everything running smoothly, both in the office and in the field. Outside of work, you can find this Master Gardener spending time with her husband and her two lively little boys.
Sara was raised in the Pacific Northwest and later attended the University of Kansas where she earned her BA in Anthropology with a focus in European archaeology. She then obtained her MS in library studies and spent five years working in library and information management. After relocating to Denver, a fortuitous chain of events led to Sara’s introduction to post-production at Citizen in 2016, where she’s helped deliver series including “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” “Going Off the Menu,” “Smoked,” and “Haylie’s America.” In her spare time, she enjoys language study, music, and research.
Amanda began working as a video editor in 2010 while attending Bowling Green State University. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2013 and was on the road to Colorado within a couple days of graduation. Amanda joined Citizen in Spring 2015 and has been an asset contributing to a diverse workload of projects. In her spare time, she enjoys fishing and kayaking.
Catie joined the Citizen Pictures Development Team in 2017. This effervescent Houston native is exceptional at spotting fresh talent and new trends and has casted for many of our development projects. In her free time, Catie enjoys all that Colorado has to offer, including hiking, snowboarding, camping and trying all the new restaurants in the ever-growing Denver area.
Sam was born in Boulder Colorado and was raised all over the Country. He knew growing up that he would pursue film in his future. After being involved in media throughout high school, Sam decided to go back to his roots in Colorado to study film at the next level. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Western State Colorado University in 2015. Sam joined Citizen in October of 2016, and has been thrilled to do his part to help the team deliver numerous hit shows. In his spare time, Sam is an avid Denver sports fan, skier, and filmmaker.
Alisha joined Citizen in 2017 after having 15 years of experience as an Administrative / Accounting Assistant in the healthcare field. She knew she wanted to challenge herself with something different and took the leap into TV production. She loves being with her husband and kids but spends most of her free time at the ball fields watching her daughter play competitive softball and her son playing baseball.
Todd has been with Citizen Pictures since March 2004. He moved to Colorado 18 years ago from Illinois to be a ski bum, but then began working as a freelance production assistant and quickly realized production was his forte. Todd takes care of the stage, equipment, cameras, lights, etc at Citizen and keeps our building looking and operating in ship shape condition. As Stage Manager he is on most Citizen productions as a grip or a camera assistant and manages all equipment. His greatest, most difficult project yet was keeping 12 camera crews organized for Race Across the Sky 2009 & 2010.
Brett began working in the world of film and television in his sophomore year of high school and found a hobby to make into a career. He attended the University of Colorado at Denver, graduating in 2013 with a BA in Theater, Film, and Television. He joined the Citizen team in 2015, performing a wide range of vital duties on all the projects Citizen works on. In his spare time, he enjoys watching films, working on independent film projects, and training his pets to not tear up his house.
